Did you know that?..
Reno was named after a fallen soldier who’s never been to the place
Naming train stops after fallen soldiers was a tradition of the American Civil War. When the Central Pacific Railroad reached the town in 1868 (at the time acquired by M.C. Lake), it was auctioned and got the name of General Jesse Lee Reno of Virginia, who was killed at the Battle of South Mountain in Maryland. Major residential construction began right away, and Reno began its journey of growth.

Automotive Reno at a glance
Quite a small town in Washoe County laying at the foothills of High Eastern Sierra, Reno is big in history and impact on the automotive world. Not having tire or auto manufacturing facilities, it is a proud host of Tesla Giga… And its famous Arch remembers the first highways running in Nevada!
The city has a plethora of car dealerships, and probably all of the large tire retailers decided to open one or a few locations here! It has a perfect network of roads and a reliable public transportation system. A great place for everything automotive, Reno is a pleasurable destination for a ride! Choose your affordable tires online on our website, and get them delivered to your location in no time, and always free of charge by FedEx.
Tesla Gigafactory Nevada
Located east of Reno at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center, Tesla Giga Nevada produces lithium-ion batteries and components for Teslas. Occupying a whopping 1.9 million square feet, it houses 5.3 million square feet of operational space. Over 7,000 employees work at the facility. Elon Musk plans to significantly reduce the costs of battery production and help humanity transit to sustainable resources of energy. The company currently produces 500,000 e-vehicles annually, and these volumes require today’s entire world’s supply of lithium-ion batteries.
The famous Arch and first highways
The Biggest Little City in the World is an important place in the history of U.S. highways. Its Arch was first built back in 1926! The spot that later would become a famous landmark was set up during the Nevada Transcontinental Highway Exposition, celebrating the completion of Lincoln and Victory Highways. They ran along the corridors of today’s U.S. Route 50 and Interstate 80. After the exposition, the city council decided to leave the Arch as a gateway to Reno downtown, and one of the citizens came up with this brilliant slogan, winning $100.
Modern Reno highways
Historic Victory Highway and a branch of the Lincoln Highway used to serve Reno until the numbered highway system was established. U.S. Route 40 was the first numbered highway, passing along 4th Street in downtown Reno. Later on, it’s been replaced I-80. Reno also hosts the main country north-south highway: U.S. Route 395/Interstate 580.
Public transportation
Reno is served by a bus system provided by the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County (RTC). The main terminal is located on 4th Street, and two other ones — in Sparks and Southern Reno (Meadowood Mall). Reno–Tahoe International Airport is well connected to the other local destinations by a network of excursion and shuttle routes.
Reno’s history originates from a stopover of the First transcontinental railroad. Today the city is served by the Overland Route, Nevada–California–Oregon Railway, and the Virginia and Truckee Railroad. Amtrak also serves Reno: its California Zephyr train stops at Reno station.

What tires do you need for Reno SD weather?
Reno has a cold semi-arid climate. Winters here are cold and can be snowy, and summers are steamy hot, and clear. The level of precipitation is low but higher than in Nevada in general. Temperatures vary between 26 °F and 90 °F during the course of a year but rarely fall below 13 °F or rise above 97 °F. These weather conditions are suitable for a good set of all-season tires. But we would also recommend a changeover: to summer tires when temperatures rise steadily above 45 °F and to winter tires when the temperatures fall below 45 °F.

DRIVERS’ Reno GUIDE: PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Live in The Biggest Little City in the World or just planning a visit? We’ve got you covered! The United Tires experts created this Driving Guide for everyone who’s about to hit the Reno roads. It contains all the essential information on driving laws, car window tinting regulations, tips on how to avoid traffic, and much more. Read on and enjoy the ride!
Live traffic report
According to the Data USA website, on average, the locals spend 20.6 minutes commuting to work (in comparison to 25.7 in Las Vegas and the national average of 26.9 minutes). Although Reno traffic isn’t as bad as America Playground’s one, it can still be very congested. The main advice? Check the real-time traffic online and avoid regular rush hours! These websites will help you do that:
Seasonal tire changeovers aren’t legally required in Reno. A good set of all-season tires from reliable brands can serve local drivers well. However, we want to remind you that all-season rubber isn’t designated for harsh weather conditions and suits rather mild ones.
Therefore, when cold season temperatures drop below 45 degrees Fahrenheit, we recommend switching to all-season Mud and Snow or winter tires. They won’t skid or harden on icy roads, providing you optimal handling and control in snow or slush.
During the warm season, when temperatures stay above 45 degrees Fahrenheit, summer or performance tires suit Reno, NV, roads the best. They don’t melt on the heated road surface and allow you to control your vehicle better even if you reach high speeds.
Shop tires “By season” on our website, make your choice, submit your order before 11 a.m., and it will be shipped on the same business day. Right to the doorstep of your Reno home or office. Always free of charge, by FedEx.
Buckle up at all times. The driver and all passengers have to wear seatbelts. Failure to do so will result in a fine of $50 per the violator
Owners of just-bought cars can drive them without a movement permit for three days, with proof of ownership/purchase
DUI — driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly against the law. For drivers of 21 years and older, the legal alcohol limit in blood is 0.08%, and for drivers of commercial vehicles — 0.04%. For drivers under 21 — 0.02%
Texting and speaking on the phone while driving is illegal in Nevada. Violation of this law leads to a fine of up to $250
Window tint laws
Visit the official Nevada Car Tinting Laws for a full explanation of tinting regulations in the state. And here are the most important rules to follow to avoid a ticket.
Tint film darkness for sedans, SUVs, and vans
Windshield: full windshield tinting is illegal, but a non-reflective tint stripe can be installed above the manufacturer’s AS-1 line
Front side windows: tints must allow at least 35% of light in
Backside windows: any level of tint film darkness is legal
Rear window: any level of tint film darkness is legal
Reflective tints application
As Nevada tinting laws don’t have reference but seem to allow some level of tint reflectiveness, we advise you to contact your tinting shop for clarification.
Do you need advice on tinting for your vehicle? Are you looking for interesting updates from the top brands? Need to read the reviews and get inspiration? You can find them all here!

Buy tires in Reno and save up to 50%!
United Tires offers its customers one of the lowest tire prices in the online world. Saving up to 50% on buying used tires in perfect condition, in comparison to the same, but brand-new tires? Bold statement? But it’s true! We sell only tires with at least 4/32” tread left, but the average treads presented in our catalog are 7/32”, 8/32”, and 9/32”, which means they are in very good condition!
A very interesting option is driven once tires — models with up to 11/32” tread left, basically, new tires that never went on the “big road” and were only tried on!
Each of our used tires undergoes a meticulous 3-stage quality inspection: an air-pressure test and two visual examinations. We discard damaged tires and simply don’t sell them.
Buying used tires not just allows you to significantly save your tire budget, but to make a significant impact on environmental protection.
