Great trucks were produced here
Ratchet City is big, populous, and well-developed. From 1981 to 2012, it hosted a large General Motor plant called Shreveport Operations, producing GMS S-15, GMS Sonoma, GMS Canyon, Chevrolet S-10, Chevrolet Colorado, Isuzu Hombre, Isuzu i-Series, Hummer H3, and Hummer H3T. Looking for cheap tires for these America’s favorite trucks? Shop for them in the SUV/Crossover section of our website and get a free FedEx delivery right to your Shreveport doorstep! The facility ended its operations in 2012, producing the last white Chevrolet Colorado. Today the 125,000 square feet space is owned by Glovis America, a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group, and functions as Hyundai and Kia dealership.
Shreveport today
Today Shreveport doesn’t host any vehicle or tire manufacturing facilities, but it is truly a great place to shop for cars and tires. Three are multiple dealerships and car shops scattered across the city, and both residents and guests benefit from the great choice of new and used vehicles featured there. Looking to buy one, or already own one? Don’t forget to equip it with quality tires! Buy them online on our website, submit your order before 1 p.m., and it will be shipped on the same business day! Always free of charge, by FedEx.
Public transportation
Shreveport’s residents and guests have a good public transportation system. SporTran is a local bus service provider with 17 (including five night) routes connecting Shreveport and Bossier City. Buses take off at 6 a.m. and finish their operations at 1 a.m. Night service isn’t available on Sundays.
Two airports are available in the area: Shreveport Regional Airport and Shreveport Downtown Airport, located in the business district along the Red River. It operates for almost 100 years, since 1931!
Ratchet City used to be an important railroad hub for the area, a meeting point for a few significant routes. Today the stations are closed, but the history remains. Visit Shreveport Railroad Museum to learn more about the railroad heritage of the place.
Shreveport highways
The Interstate Highway System serving the local area has a cross-hair and loop freeway structure. The Outer Loop Freeway, Interstate 220 in the north, and the Inner Loop Freeway, Louisiana Highway 3132 in the south create an 8-mile semi-loop that servers Shreveport downtown. The Bert Kouns Industrial Loop, or Louisiana Highway 526, creates another loop in the south and bisects I-49.
Interstate 49 heads north to the Arkansas I-30. If the initiative would be accepted, an Interstate 69 North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) superhighway will connect the local area to Canada, Midwest, Texas, and Mexico.
