Miami is the only American city founded by a woman
Her name was Julia Tuttle and she was a local businesswoman. In 1896 Julis encouraged a railroad mogul to extend the new Florida East Coast Railroad to Miami. This simple action led to an inevitable development of a town into modern Miami as we know it.

What tires do you need for Miami weather?
Tires for the all-year-round use
South Florida is a sunny and warm place pretty much all year round. It also rains quite a bit from May and into October, so wet road conditions are common here, and riding on summer tires makes total sense. Looking to buy some? Visit our summer tires section to buy new and used tires perfect for Miami weather, and enjoy our free FedEx Home Delivery to your doorstep in Sunshine City!
Performance tires belong to a category of summer tires and provide optimal grip and great vehicle handling on a melting hot road surface. They also cruise safely through the rains and floodings, thanks to deep wide grooves.
All-season tires are also a reasonable choice for the Miamians. Some call these tires all-rounders that suit driving in mild weather all year round. They offer good vehicle handling, grip, and aquaplaning in anything but extreme conditions. Choose from over 50,000 all-season tires on our website, save up to 50% and benefit from the comfort of online shopping and super fast delivery!

DRIVERS’ MIAMI GUIDE: PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Live traffic report
Yes, the traffic jams and gridlock in Miami are a daily reality for commuters, so it makes total sense to keep an eye on that traffic before deciding to take a drive somewhere around here. As the rule of thumb, going south on I-95 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. is a no-no, and so is going north from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., since they are the peak hours for people who work in the downtown area of Miami. Using HOT (“High-occupancy lanes”) that run along I-95 is an option if you don’t mind paying the toll. To check the live Miami traffic conditions report, use these links below:
There are no legal obligations for a seasonal tire changeover in Miami. The weather is beautiful all year round, and it is absolutely safe to drive on all-season or summer rubber without a need to change it to anything else. But remember to check your tread left and shop for new tires when it is anywhere close to 3/32” (2/32” tread left makes the tires illegal to drive on). Find impressive discounts for the best tires on the market on our website! You save up to 50% by buying used tires in perfect condition.
And if you're looking for an enhanced summer performance, choose from the range of performance tires (“Shop by performance” category on our website). We got them all: from high performance to max performance, competition, and racing tires! Choose the right tires and enjoy our free FedEx shipping right to your Miami door!
Driving Laws
Be sure your driving complies with the key driving laws of the state of Florida:
Seat belts are a must for all drivers and passengers in all types of vehicles
Children under 4 years of age must be strapped into approved car safety seats
Seeing/hearing an emergency vehicle/police car with sirens and flashing lights, all drivers must signal and pull over to the side until they have passed
Same but in traffic? Move as far over to the right side of the road as you can, leaving enough space for the vehicle to drive through
Vehicles approaching the roundabout have to yield to circulating traffic, yet you should obey all signs to determine the correct right-of-way, so keep your eyes peeled
Headlights must be on whenever the windshield wipers are in use (!)
DUI in Florida starts with a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or above. If you refuse the test, you are guilty of DUI by default
Unspoken Road Rules
Be prepared for honking, double parking, sudden change of lane, and road rage. That’s what the anecdotal evidence says, but here’s some more official info on the matter. AutoVantage auto club commissioned a poll in both 2006 and 2007, and, according to the results, the Sunshine City had the rudest drivers in the whole of the U.S. Moreover, Miami ranks as one of the most dangerous cities for pedestrians in the U.S. If you are from Miami, you know what I’m talking about. If you are a visitor, keep your composure, use defensive driving skills, and don’t expect anyone to follow the rules. With that kind of caution, you should be fine.

Parking rules
Finding a spot to park in Miami depends on pure luck, the time of the day, and events happening in the vicinity. With that many local and visiting motorists constantly cruising around, parking spaces can be scarce.
Expect most of the spots in downtown Miami to be metered, pay attention to the rules of the particular meter you are using, and save you some ticket money.
Smart options to get reasonably priced and assured parking in Miami are listed below:
Monthly rentals of parking spots in public garages and lots
Park+Ride options at the transit stations, when commuting to/from Miami
The visible light transmittance (VLT) limits in Miami are set by the Florida Tinting law. Learn more on the Official Tinting Laws website.
Key tinting legal regulations in Miami

Front side windows: 28% VLT or higher
Backside windows: 15% VLT or higher for sedans, and 6% or higher for SUVs
Rear window: 15% VLT or higher for sedans, and 6% or higher for SUVs
Tint reflection limits in Miami for both sedans and SUVs
Front side windows: 25% reflective or less
Backside windows: 35% reflective or less
Other important tinting regulations in Miami
Tinted back windows require dual side mirrors
Colored tinting is illegal in Miami

Helmet laws
All riders younger than 21 years of age are required to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle in Miami. Florida law also obliges all riders regardless of age to wear appropriate eye protection. Since the best eye protection is provided by the visor of your helmet, we recommend wearing one at all times while riding a motorcycle in Miami.
Roads and highways
The Sunshine City and the county it belongs to, Miami-Dade, are served by several major roads, including four Interstate Highways (I-75, I-95, I-195, I-395) and several routes: U.S. Route 1, U.S. Route 27, U.S. Route 41, and U.S. Route 441. Miamians drive a lot, according to recent polls over 70% of commuting in the county is done by driving. Add visitors and tourists, and there you have it: Miami gridlock and traffic jams are famous all over the U.S. That’s where the tollways come in handy. Tolls in Miami can be paid by various means: toll tags like SunPass, E-ZPass, E-Pass, etc., in some cases cash, and Toll-by-Plate payments are available.
Gratigny Parkway is 8 miles long six-lane toll road, connecting the southern end of I-75 with the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826) and further on to the Douglas Le Jeune Connector
Don Shula Expressway runs from the Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike northeast to the Palmetto Expressway
Snapper Creek Expressway provides a link between straddles between Don Shula Expressway and U.S. 1 Dixie Highway
Miami Airport Expressway extends for 5.4 miles from Miami International Airport (MIA) east to Interstate 95 and Interstate 195 and continues eastward of Interstate 95 as Interstate 195 to Miami Beach
Dolphin Expressway is a 14 miles long electronic tollway signed as State Road 836 (SR 836), extending eastward past the Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike (SR 821) and Miami International Airport. It’s operated by the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) and accepts only electronic tolls, Sunpass, and toll-by-plate (twice more expensive than toll paid by Sunpass).
Turn left from I-95 onto Rickenbacker Causeway, to take in splendid vistas of downtown Miami. Continue towards Ocean Drive in Miami Beach, and drive back on Venetian Causeway. Conclude your road trip to Margaret Pace Park.
Everglades and big sky
Miami skyline and downtown views are great, but this 80 miles( one way) drive will take you into the vast expanse of the Everglades. Begin northwest of Miami (Hialeah, Miami Lakes, and Miami Gardens are all good starting points). Learn about the Everglades at Shark Valley and the Museum of Everglades in Everglades City.

Are summer tires good in Miami?
Summer tires are specifically designed for driving in hot weather and rain. This makes them perfect for driving in Miami’s weather.
Do summer tires wear faster?
Yes, they do. Summer tires have shallow treads compared to all-season ones. There are fewer groves on the summer tires, as well. Plus, their powerful grip just leaves more rubber on the tarmac.
How long should tires last in Miami?
For Miami weather conditions summer tires are a perfect choice. On average, summer tires are good for 20,000-25,000 miles, if you are using all-season tires, double that number.
