Driving over 90 days annually in Florida, you must register your car here!
State law says that if you drive a particular car in Florida for more than 90 days a year (don’t have to be consecutive), then that vehicle must be registered here!
The Sunshine State is not big on car and tire manufacturing but is really huge on car racing. Due to warm winters, the racing events happen all year round. Two major racing facilities here are the world-famous Daytona Beach International Speedway, home to the most-watched in U.S. “Daytona 500” race, and Sebring International Raceway, famous for the “12 hours of Sebring” event. Looking to buy some racing rubber? “Shop by tire performance” on our website and find the best tire deals daily, both on new and used competition tires and racing tires.
Drag racing history at Don Garlits Museum
The story of the drag racing sport comes alive in Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing, home to the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame in Ocala Fl, with just under 300 cars on display. Looking to get rubber for your passion? Utires.com got you covered, shop for them online at the drag racing tires section!
Racing car manufacturing
Advanced racing car manufacturing is an industry in itself in Florida, take for example Innovative Chassis Works (ICW) located in Gainesville and owned by Ron Griffis. They build advanced racing car chassis, muscle cars, hot rods, and choppers.

What tires do you need for Florida weather?
Two climate zones
In terms of climate and weather, Florida can be divided into two zones: to the north of Lake Okeechobee the climate is humid subtropical, and to the south of the lake a true tropical climate is prevalent.
North Florida temperatures in winter can go all the way down to the low 40s Fahrenheit, but southward from Miami, it is still above 60 °F during the winter. Snow is a rarity here, but it can occur occasionally in the northernmost regions around Pensacola, Jacksonville, and Gainesville. No wonder Floridians tend to either ride on all season tires all year long that are pretty much enough to feel comfortable throughout the year in South Florida.
Tires for the Florida “rainy season”
There’s plenty of rain and hot weather in Florida. It rains from May through early July during the stormy season, and then it’s hot, humid, and wet until early September, just to rain more until early October. Though all-season tires are just enough for driving on Florida roads all year round, summer tires are a perfect choice too. The rubber compound in this, more progressive tire type, is stiff, and it doesn’t “melt” on a hot steamy highway surface. The deep grooves and a specific tread design allow perfect aquaplaning, allowing you to comfortably drive even on the rainiest of days.
Tires for speed and performance
If moderate speeds are not your thing, getting a set of performance tires makes total sense. This category has been specially designed for summer roads, high speeds, and immediate acceleration. Here at United Tires, we have a vast choice of performance tires and their varieties — high performance, max performance, ultra high performance, max performance, and even competition and racing tires.
No matter, what style of driving you prefer, we most likely have the perfect tire for you! Need assistance with choice? United Tires 24/7 customer service reps are happy to help you, call 773-840-0282, or dial toll-free 1-888-566-6211 to have all of your questions answered!

DRIVERS’ FLORIDA GUIDE: PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Sunny Florida is so pleasant to drive around! But to be absolutely sure that you don’t break any rules, choose the best routes and don’t exceed the tinting limitations, use this cheat sheet created by United Tires’ experts, especially for Florida!
Live traffic report
Both Floridians and visitors do a lot of driving here, regularly causing traffic congestion, so it makes perfect sense to check the traffic situation before venturing out. It can be done on the links below:
Though the warm and sunny climate of Florida does not demand a seasonal tire changeover, and most Floridians ride on all season tires, we suggest you get yourself a set of summer tires if you need enhanced performance on the road. These tires have been specially designed for hot road surfaces, high speeds, and heavy rains. We recommend performance tires for sports cars: get them in perfect condition with plenty of tread left on our website.
And if you’re more of a car geek or a racer, shop for high performance, max performance, ultra high performance, max performance, competition, and racing on utires.com. All of our used tires undergo a meticulous safety inspection, and the high quality is backed up by a 1-year hustle-free return policy.
Driving Laws
Open intersection
On the open intersection, you must yield the right-of-way to:
To a vehicle that is already in the intersection
If you enter or cross a state highway from a secondary road
You join a paved road from an unpaved road
To a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction, if you are to make a left turn
Stop sign
Yield the right-of-way to all other traffic and pedestrians at stop signs
Move forward only when the road is clear
At four-way stops, the first vehicle to stop should move forward first.
School buses
All drivers moving in either direction must stop on the two-way street or highway for a stopped school bus, picking up/dropping off children.
School crossings
In Florida, crossing guards are posted in areas unsafe for kids to cross by themselves. When you see a guard, reduce your speed, and follow the guard’s signals.
Public transit buses
Drivers should yield to public transit buses traveling in the same direction, indicating, and reentering the traffic from a designated pullout bay.
Funeral processions
Pedestrians and drivers must yield the right-of-way to funeral processions.
Driveways
Drivers yield to vehicles entering a road from a driveway, alley or roadside should yield to vehicles already on the main road. Motorists got to yield to bicyclists and pedestrians on the sidewalk.
Emergency vehicles
Drivers have to yield to law enforcement vehicles, fire engines, and any other emergency vehicles that are using sirens and/or flashing lights. Pull over to the side, and wait until the emergency vehicle has passed.
A good thing to remember in Florida is that every driver, motorcyclist, moped rider, bicyclist, and pedestrian is obliged to do everything possible to avoid a collision, so use your right of way gracefully and sensibly.
Unspoken Road Rules
The main rule here would be “beware at all times while driving on I-95”. Reportedly, even veteran NY drivers are taken aback by a lack of speed limits enforcement, and sudden actions of motorists, undertaken without any prior indication. Besides, Florida has not outlawed eating while driving, yet drivers are encouraged to keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times. Guess how that one works out most of the time.
Remember, Florida sports third place on the most dangerous U.S. states for driving list. Speeding is the primary crash cause here. Sunshine State also ranks second only to Louisiana for distracted driving. According to The Florida Highway Patrol, there are about five distracted driving accidents happening every hour. Being attentive, and keeping your composure definitely pays off here since road rage is rather common.
Parking rules
Parking in Florida is not allowed when/if:
If the curb is painted yellow, or the "No Parking" sign is posted
Within intersections
If you are blocking other vehicles or creating a hazard
On the roadway side of another parked vehicle
On crosswalks, sidewalks, and in front of driveways
Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant
Within 20 feet of an intersection
Within 20 feet of the entrance to the fire, ambulance, or rescue squad station
Within 50 feet of a railroad crossing
On the hard surface of a highway without marked parking spaces
On any bridge, overpass, or a tunnel
Within 30 feet of a rural mailbox on a state highway between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Within 30 feet of any flashing signal, stop sign, or traffic signal
The visible light transmittance (VLT) regulations for car window tinting in Florida
Windshield: non-reflective tint is allowed above the manufacturer's AS-1 line
Front side windows: Must allow in more than 28% of light
Backside windows: VLT higher than 15% for sedans, and 6% for SUVs
Rear window: VLT higher than 15% for sedans, and 6% for SUVs
Tint reflection values for sedans and SUVs in Florida
Front side windows: must not exceed 25% reflective
Backside windows: must not exceed 35% reflective
Other important tinting regulations in Florida
Dual side mirrors are required in case any back windows are tinted
Florida does not permit any colored tinting
The legal tinting stickers are required on the inside of the driver’s side door!
Florida allows medical exemptions for special tints
Find out about the best manufacturers, hot tinting industry trends, pro tips, and much more!
Helmet laws
Florida law requires all riders under the age of 21 to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle, and all riders of any age to be equipped with appropriate eye protection. The best eye protection is a visor of your helmet, so stay safe on Florida roads, and protect yourself at all times.
Roads and highways
Florida highways
The Sunshine State is served by a number of interstate highways, connecting it to the rest of the U.S., including Interstates 4, 10, 95, 75, 275, and 295. Florida is one of the most traveled states in the U.S. Many visitors come to Universal Studios in Orlando, Kennedy Space Center, Everglades National Park, Walt Disney World, and South Beach in Miami. Looking to buy new or used highway tires online with free FedEx Home Delivery to Florida? Visit the Utires.com highway tires section!
Florida tollways and toll bridges
In addition to a well-developed highway system, Florida has the longest stretch of tollways in the whole of the U.S., with 719 miles of toll roads in total! Most of Florida's toll roads and bridges use electronic toll systems and offer a toll-by-plate option. Tolls can be paid in Sunshine State by using SunPass and E-Pass toll tags.
The tollway system can be subdivided into the following categories:
Florida Turnpike
Florida toll roads
Florida toll bridges
Florida express lanes
For more information on Florida toll facilities, toll costs, and smart ways to pay visit the Official SunPass website.
SCENIC ROUTES
To quote the Official Florida Scenic Highways site: “Our byway collection includes 27 state-designated scenic highways. Of these, six are further designated at a federal level as National Scenic Byways, and the Florida Keys Scenic Highway and A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway are designated as All-American Roads”. Visit the link above for more information.
Fun facts
Florida’s lawmakers have passed some very strange laws indeed. Some of those probably made sense at the time, but seem to be weird to us today:
An elephant, an alligator, or a goat (!), tied to a parking meter will cost you the same price as a car
It is illegal in Florida to park or drive, on top of a grave in a cemetery, and that’s a good thing!
In Sarasota hitting a pedestrian carries a $78 fine, which is less than a ticket for “following too closely” (ticket up to $500)
In Cape Coral, you cannot put a couch in your driveway
In Cape Coral, only renters can park a pick-up truck in front of a house, or in the driveway
